A Dutch startup

Our adventure started in 1998, in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

The ICT management team of a European General Electric Finance business unit was sent home after a large aquisition. There and then, three of them decided that this would never happen to them again, and to make sure of that, they started their own ICT company, initially focussing on interim ICT management and ICT project management.

In early 2000, they ventured into web application development, building a bespoke web based payroll application for one of their consultancy clients. This was quickly followed by the secure managed hosting of said application. A new business was born!

Crossing the pond

We fast forward 20 years. One of the parters had left a few years prior to become director at a Microsoft focused international consultancy company, one had passed away early 2018, and the one remaining partner had moved to the UK in 2015 for personal reasons.

With the management teams Dutch connection gone, the decision was made to sell the Dutch consultancy business and move the web development and managed hosting business to the UK. It was merged with FlexCoders Ltd, a small 2014 tech startup in London we provided the seed capital for, and a colocated datacenter was setup in the Midlands.

Becoming digital nomads

And then... in 2020... the pandemic happened.

Given our focus on employing neuro-divergent people, we were already making plans to make it possible for everyone to work remotely, on a permanent basis. The pandemic gave us the nudge needed to set the plans into action. We closed the FlexCoders office in Central London, kept the business address and meeting room in Glasgow, and made sure the facilities were in place for everyone to be able to work remotely.
